How to Celebrate the Contradictions in Your Life as a Neurodiverse Person
In the realm of human experience, much like Einstein’s principle of motion, we often find that for every truth, there exists an equally valid opposite truth. This duality reflects the complex, multifaceted nature of reality, where contrasting truths can coexist harmoniously and offer a deeper understanding of our world.
This year has been a mosaic of discoveries for me. Among them, I’ve realized I’m not cut out for fishkeeping, survived a road trip from Brisbane to Sydney with my family, unlocked the magic of visualizing ideas through a cutting-edge AI app called Midjourney, and come to terms with the fact that my social energy might be irreparably depleted.
While all these insights hold their weight, the most impactful realisation has been understanding that multiple truths can coexist in any given situation. As someone with a neurodiverse perspective, I’ve often seen the world in stark black and white. Situations appeared definitive, with no shades of grey in sight. Other times, I found myself so confused by feeling two things at once that I would be paralysed and couldn’t articulate how I was feeling at all. But life has a way of teaching us lessons in the most unexpected ways.
I used to believe that relationships were either perfect or doomed. But through personal experiences, I’ve learned that relationships can be both challenging and rewarding at the same time. It’s about embracing the duality that comes with human connections.
In my career, I once thought success meant having a linear path. Now, I understand that a successful career can be a tapestry of varied experiences, some fulfilling and others not so much. This contrast has made my professional journey more enriching, and made me realise that being a Jill-of-all-trades is pretty cool. I can do most things.
As a post-graduate student, I’ve realised that learning can be both exhilarating and exhausting. Admitting this contrast has allowed me to appreciate the journey of acquiring knowledge, with all its ups and downs.
I’ve also come to realise that differing perspectives can coexist, each bearing its own validity. In my own life, I’ve experienced the sorrow of drifting apart in relationships, while also recognising that such distancing was necessary for my well-being.
This revelation became particularly pivotal while writing my eBook on the human experience of change. Understanding that opposing truths can coexist in any situation is a cornerstone of self-assessment. It involves embracing our complex nature, where strengths and weaknesses intertwine, defining our unique selves.
For those of us who are neurodiverse, acknowledging this duality in our perceptions can be transformative. It opens our eyes to the nuances of life, beyond the stark contrasts of black and white. This isn’t just about accepting life’s contradictions but also celebrating them. For those who often experience a whirlwind of thoughts and feelings, this realization grants the freedom to acknowledge and express our multifaceted emotions.
In closing, this journey of embracing life’s dualities has been transformative, personally and in my eBook's creation. Understanding and celebrating the complex interplay of contrasts in our lives is not just enlightening, it’s liberating. It’s a narrative I’ve passionately woven into my writing, exploring the multifaceted nature of human experiences.
